Al-Hafiz Sulthan Mohamed Latheef has been appointed as the Deputy Director General (Qur’an Memorization) of ILM Institute for Islamic Studies.
When he was just 15 years old, Sulthan memorized the holy Quran in just one year in the year 2015. He is well known for his magnificent recitation of the Quran while serving as the Imam for several of the largest mosques in Male, particularly during Tarawih, in addition to participating in various Quran competitions.
Coming from a family of Imams, Sulthan began his profession as one at the age of 12. His father, Sheikh Mohamed Latheef, served as the Islamic Center of the Maldives’s imam for a while. Sheikh Latheef provided the most encouragement and motivation for Sulthan. Both Sulthan’s great-grandfather and grandfather were imams as well.
Sulthan desired to memorize the holy Quran after serving as an imam for a period, partly because his two older sisters and older brother had already memorized it.
He began memorizing while still in school, thus he encountered some problems; nonetheless, by dedicating time to learning the Quran each day, he was able to become a Hafiz.
Sulthan’s dedication and hard work, combined with his calm and honest nature, would be a major influence for students at ILM as well as students across the country.
